no party with yusupov no cry
#114 During the last moments of the interviews before the third quarter quell, when all 24 tributes locked hands, the television crews allowed the image to be broadcast all over Panem for just a few seconds - despite the command to cut. It was their own small act of rebellion to show the one happening on stage: all of the tributes putting aside their differences, joining hands - against the games, against the dark days, against the violence that had torn 23 families apart every year.
so many tears#108 After the Rebellion was over, the one person that helped Katniss recover more than anyone else, aside from Peeta, was Haymitch. With Prim and Cinna dead, and her mother and Gale moved away, Haymitch was one of the few people she trusted that she had left - and the only one who had never let her down. Their daily phone calls and weekly visits helped them both more than they ever thought possible - although neither would ever admit it.
#100 When the news spread that the star-crossed lovers were getting married, three unexpected visitors turned up outside Katniss and Peeta’s door - Flavius, Venia, and Octavia. Venia, the only one of the trio who’s eyes weren’t filled with tears, told Katniss: “Cinna wasn’t the only one betting on you.”
#93 One day, years after the defeat of the Capitol, a tall man turned up at Katniss and Peeta’s home in District 12 - and as soon as Katniss saw him, she knew who he was; the neat, dark hair, the hazel eyes with flecks of gold in them. Cinna’s brother knew that she had recognised him and wordlessly held out a small piece of paper with her name written on it. Breathless, she took it from him and opened it; inside, in gold hand writing she still recognised after all this time, were the words: “I’ll always be betting on you, Girl on Fire.”
#91 Gale often told his young children stories of him and Katniss, and the adventures they had hunting in the woods. When they asked him where she was, and why she wasn’t with him any more, he told them: “She had to choose between me and another man. And she chose him”. His children were outraged and demanded to know why, but Gale just smiled sadly and replied: “I guess he deserved her more. But, I want you to listen to what I’m about to tell you very carefully: When you love someone, tell them. Because you never know what might happen, and what might take them away from you forever.”
#86 When Annie was first told of Finnick’s death, her entire world stopped turning. She didn’t break down, or make a single sound - she sat in silence for hours, not moving or speaking to anyone. At nightfall, she returned to their room and found a short length of rope, ragged and worn from the many times Finnick’s fingers had twisted it into knots and without warning, she sat down on the bed and cried for hours, until she had cried an ocean of tears. When she was done, she picked up the rope and began to loop and twist and pull, every knot that Finnick had ever taught her, because at that moment it was the only thing that made sense.
#73 Every night before they went to sleep, Katniss and Peeta would play the real or not real game. It was a trivial thing, a routine that they both found comforting, and it always ended with the same question asked by either one of them: “You love me. Real or not real?”.They played this game for years, eventually decades, until one day Peeta sat by Katniss’s bedside, tears in his eyes, as her lips formed her last word: “Real”.
#57 Both Katniss and Peeta reminded Haymitch of himself before the first arena. Like Katniss, he had been strong-willed to the point of stubborn, intelligent and he had very little interest in interacting with people he didn’t know. Like Peeta, however, he had been in love with the same girl since he was a small child – but the difference was that he told her a few weeks before the reaping. When she had had come to say goodbye to him, the only thing she had said to him was: “Stay alive”. And so he did.
#44 Buttercup lived with Peeta and Katniss for many years; but he was never the same after Prim died. It was only when the first of their children was born, and that little girl loved him as Prim had done, that he even resembled the cat that had lived with them so many years ago. When she noticed this, Katniss wondered whether all along all he had needed was someone to love him - not unlike herself.
#35 Finnick had written Annie a letter, to be given to her if he didn’t survive the mission. It described every little thing that he loved about her - the way her eyes lit up when she smiled, how her hand fit his so perfectly, the way she would stop mid-conversation as though she realised she had more important things to think about. He finished it “Every time you see the sea, think of me and you and everything we had together, how it was unstoppable like the ocean, how noone could have ever held it back. I love you, Annie Odair. I always have, though it took me long enough to realise it. And you know I always will.”
#31 Haymitch drank so much because if his mind were left capable to remember the things he had seen, even the things he himself had done, he didn’t think he would be able to stand it.The rare days when the liquor ran out, he was trapped in an endless nightmare - Katniss face down in a pool of blood, Peeta beaten to a pulp and imprisoned in the Captol, and that girl, his girl, screaming as she was dragged away.
#20 The bedtime stories that Peeta told his children were mostly about their defeat of the Capitol. He told them of a beautiful and wild Queen, a King who didn’t always know what he was doing, and of four courageous princes and princesses named Cinna, Finnick, Rue and Prim.
# 16 After Finnick died, Annie stopped covering her ears with her hands. The reason she had done this was to block out his screams, the ones they had taught to the jabberjays in order to torture her - and now, she knew he was in a place where noone could hurt him.
#15 Cinna’s father had worked to bring down Snow, but was killed before he was discovered. He had taught Cinna the importance of sacrificing everything for what is right, and for always believing that justice and goodness is the highest power. So when Cinna was presented with this opportunity, to help the Mockingjay - the symbol of hope, of spirit and of determination - there wasn’t a single doubt in his mind as to what he should do.
#12 Cinna never regretted for one minute what he did with the mockingjay dress, not even whilst he was being beaten and tortured. You see, to do the impossible you have to believe in the impossible. And Cinna believed in Katniss until the very end.
#2 When Finnick whispered in Annie’s ear to calm her down, he was describing how the sea looked on a bright, clear day.
